Mobile Pet Grooming!
One of the most important, yet overlooked, aspects of routine care for dogs is grooming. Just as you brush or comb your own hair daily, your dog or cat's fur should be brushed daily as well.  This daily routine will get your pet used to being handled, will aid in the natural removal of your pet's undercoat, and will help in your pet's natural deshedding process.  Then, depending on the breed of pet, a complete and professional bath and grooming should be done every four to ten weeks.  For example, a Lab can be professionally groomed a little less often than a Bichon or a Golden Retriever.

There is a huge benefit to maintaining a professional grooming schedule. Removal of the undercoat is extremely important to maintaining your pet's good health. If your pet's undercoat is not removed, it will matt. A matted pet has no insulation from the heat or cold, because air cannot circulate through his coat. In the cold, a matted coat with lots of undercoat retains the water and moisture and provides no protection. Matts trap dirt and water causing irritation to the skin, often creating "hot spots" or raw skin irritation. A properly maintained coat, with the undercoat properly removed, provides warmth and insulation, avoids matting, and decreases the risk of irritating and uncomfortable hot spots.  In some cases, owner's of severely matted pets are charged dematting fees which can be very expensive because it is a very time consuming process and can be very unpleasant for the pet.

Although shaving matts is an option, it is not always good for your pet either because a shaved animal has no protection from the heat or cold. In the warm months, pets with exposed shaved skin CAN get sun burn.  Despite warm weather, a properly maintained coat with the undercoat removed by frequent brushing and regular professional grooming, is the best protection from the heat and sun.

When's the last time you inspected your pet's ears, eyes, teeth and nails? Each of these parts of your pet's anatomy should be checked on a weekly basis. Proper and preventative maintenance will avoid any overlooked infections. And the use of a professional groomer to clean your pet's ears, eyes and to professionally clip or dremel nails, will provide a SAFE alternative to you doing it yourself.

Wagging Tails Groomer realizes the importance of proper grooming.  Our full grooming service consists of a full skin and coat exam, bathing, fluff drying, removal of undercoat, clipping, styling, ear cleaning and teeth cleaning as well as nail trimming and filing.

We also offer additional services such as flea dips, skunk baths, teeth brushing and our very popular and effective "Furminator" Treatment. Call us or visit our website today to book your pet's next grooming appointment!

IS MOBILE GROOMING THE RIGHT CHOICE
FOR YOUR PET?
  • Do you have a busy or hectic schedule and can never find time to bring your pet to the groomer?

  • Do you hate the idea of your pet sitting in a cage at the groomer's all day?

  • Does your pet get nervous or stressed out when it's time to visit the groomer?

  • Does the thought of your dog having to listen to nothing but barking dogs all day make you cringe?

  • Does your pet get carsick or stressed in the car?

  • Do you hate the idea of putting a dirty, smelly dog in your nice clean car?

  • Do you have an older or sick pet that cannot handle the stress of a trip to the groomer?

  • Do you have a Pug, Shih Tzu, Bulldog, or any other short nosed breed that can overheat if dried in a cage?

If you answered "YES" to any of the above questions, then Wagging Tails Mobile Pet Grooming is the perfect solution for you!

SOME PET GROOMING TIPS FOR YOU

BRUSHING
Brush your pet thoroughly every day. This helps keep his or her hair in good condition by removing dirt, spreading the natural oils throughout the coat, preventing tangles from forming and keeping the skin clean and free from irritation.

It is best to start brushing your pet at an early age. Proceed slowly and gently, and be sure to use treats and plenty of praise to make the experience fun!

EARS
Ear care is an important part of grooming. Ear infections can not only be painful, but lead to permanent hearing loss. Pet's with folded ears such as Labs and Goldens are more prone to yeast infections of the ear because moisture gets trapped in them. The signs of a problem with a companion animal's ears include redness, constant scratching, head shaking and odor.  If the problem persists, talk to your vet.

Chronic ear problems are often times the result of a food allergy.  Check the ingredients on the label of your dog's food and try feeding a food with a different grain or protein source.  Foods made with fish and sweet potatoes are sometimes a good alternative. Again, if you notice any discoloration or foul odor in your pets ear, and/or frequent ear scratching, see your vet.

How to Clean Your Pet's Ears

  • Check your dog's ears weekly or at a minimum of twice per month. The skin inside and on the flaps should be pale pink. If there is a foul odor and/or any red, brown or black skin, have a veterinarian examine your pet's ears.
  • Moisten a cotton ball with warm water or a little mineral oil and use it to clean the opening into the canal and the flaps. Do not probe too deeply into the canal.

TEETH
Dogs and cats can get cavities and develop periodontal disease. Their teeth should be cleaned with a pet toothpaste at least twice per week. It is best to use a small toothbrush that has soft bristles. Cleanings performed by a veterinarian may also be required.

NAILS
Many people prefer to leave this to the groomer, but if you choose to trim your dog's nails at home, the pliers style is the best kind of nail clipper for a non-professional to use.  Trim just a small amount at a time being careful not to cut the "quick". This is the pink area of the nail that is close to the paw. It can be seen on pets with white or clear nails, but is not visible on pets with black nails. If this "quick" is cut, it is very painful and your pet can bleed profusely. It is a good idea to have styptic powder on hand to stop any bleeding should you cut into the quick. Better yet, call Wagging Tails Mobile Pet Groomer--brushing, bathing, cleaning ears, teeth and clipping nails--we can do it all for you!

Mandee is a certified professional groomer. She graduated with top honors from the CT School of Dog Grooming. Since then, she has had extensive experience grooming pets of all breeds and types--even rabbits! Mandee is well known amongst peers and clients for her talent with intricate hand scissoring of classic breeds such as poodles and bichons. Before joining Wagging Tails team, Mandee worked for a year for a mobile grooming service in Southern CT. So she has knowledge and experience in utilizing all aspects of our specially equipped grooming van. Mandee's sunny personality and caring demeanor is contagious to those who meet her-especially animals! She seems to calm the most nervous of pets with her patience and experienced groom techniques. When you book a grooming appointment, Mandee will meet you on the first appointment to discuss and document your specific requests for your pet's bath, style and haircut! When Mandee's not working hard at making Wagging Tails clients look their best, she enjoys being with her four legged family: Phoebe-her miniature poodle, Vinnie-a miniature dachsund, Frankie-a golden retriever mix and 4 cats-Tony, Louie, Simba and Lola. Mandee also volunteers as a foster parent for Bully Breed Rescue-a non profit pit bull rescue group in New Canaan.

We are thrilled that so many of our clients have tried and love our mobile grooming service. For those of you who have yet to try it, or are wondering how it works, I'd like to take the time to answer some frequently asked questions we've received regarding the mobile grooming van and services.

-Does mobile grooming mean you groom my pet in my tub, at my house?
Yes we do come to your house to groom your pet, but NO we do not groom your pet in your tub. We have a self contained mobile grooming van. It is a state of the art grooming salon on wheels. It was specifically designed and created for this purpose by a mid western company that has over 30 years experience in the mobile grooming industry. We visited the factory and watched production of the van! It has a huge tub that will fit ANY size dog and a hydraulic groom table with a bridge to the tub to easily get arthritic or senior pets in and out of the tub.

-Isn't it too cold to groom in a van outdoors? And too hot in the summer?
No! The entire interior of the van is heated and the water used to bathe your pet is heated. So for your pets comfort and (our groomers too) they are nice and toasty! And in the warmer months, the entire van is air conditioned too!

-Where do you get the water and power to groom my pet?
We use our own water tank and generator to heat the water to groom your pet.  Our clients don't have to supply anything--just your pet!

-Pet owners do not need to be present for us to groom your pet. However, we do like to see or speak with you on the very first grooming appointment so you can specify the services and type of cut you would like your pet to have.

-Yes, our mobile groomer can come to your workplace or business and groom your pet there!

Other benefits and pros to using Wagging Tails Mobile Grooming Service:
-Unlike most grooming salons that sanitize only once daily at the end of the day-- in our mobile van, the tub, table, grooming supplies, tools and entire work area of the van are sanitized between each and every groom appointment.

-Your pet is Fluff dryed and NOT cage dried! This means that after your pet's bath, unlike grooming salons, your pet is hand dried by the groomer with a gentle specially made fluff dryer. In most grooming salons, pets are put in cages with dryers attached and cage dried. But there are no cages in the van. None. PERIOD! Your pet will not have to sit in a cage to wait their turn to be groomed or to dry. Your pet receives individual care and attention. If you have multiple pets to be groomed, to reduce stress, each is done individually. Meaning that they wait their turn in your home!

-We use all natural products to bathe and clean your pet.

-We absolutely DO groom cats! We've even groomed rabbits!

-Our groomer is licensed, experienced, trained in and a graduate of professional grooming school.

-Each groom includes a special hydrosurge massaging water bath with all natural shampoos & conditioners, a gentle blow dry, ear cleansing, teeth cleansing, nail clipping and clean up clipping of the fur around the face, ears, eyes and sanitary areas (if necessary), a biscuit treat and a bow or bandanna.

-Additional services do include clipping the pet to breed standards,
nail polishing, matt removal, extensive brush or comb outs, furminator deshedding tool use, coat & skin remoisturizing treatments, deskunking, flea baths.

-Yes, you absolutely can tip the groomer!

-The groom fee is breed specific and also depends on the needs of each pet. In some cases, mobile grooming fees may be slightly more expensive than salon grooming fees. But remember:
-our VERY CONVENIENT service comes to YOU.
-we eliminate your travel
-we eliminate your pet's stress with travel.
-your pet is the ONLY focus of our grooming attention
-there are no other pets to spread fleas, ticks, kennel cough, etc
-there are no cages for your pet to sit in
-your pet doesnt wait all day at a salon to be picked up
-your pet is hand dried
-individual loving attention & professional grooming for your pet!

Angela has been an important part of the Wagging Tails family for about 12 years!! From hamsters to horses, and pooper scooping to invoicing, Angela's done it all here! This month (but really it's every month) we recognize that Angela is a fabulous pet sitter! When she's not busy with Wagging Tails, Angela enjoys her own two furry kids, Tritan, a rottweiler, and Blue, a pit bull. Be sure to say hi and to congratulate her when you call in to book your pet sitting visits or pet grooming appointments. Your pet is a creature of habit. Their daily routine is important to their well being and happiness. Point proven when their kisses wake you up at exactly the same time each day-even on your day off-when you were hoping to sleep in. Familiar sights and sounds keep them calm, happy and stress free. Point proven when they come racing to see you when they hear your key in the lock, or the slightest clank of the opening of their cookie jar. Every pet has a routine, a daily schedule that keeps them feeling secure and content. They know the routine, the sounds of home and the smells of home surrounding them. And they are happy. That's why, when you are traveling, working or away for the day, we encourage you to leave your pet at home. No matter how fancy the name or the description sounds--pet resorts, doggie retreats, pet spas, pet hotels, doggie day care, pet camps, are still NOT home!!  To your pet, they are all strange places where the comforts of home may be advertised to you, but are still NOT there for your pet. Your familiar scents, your pet's favorite couch, their favorite foods and their important regular routine are NOT present in a facility that is NOT home. So although you may think your pet is happy to go buhbye- don't be fooled! Their excessive panting, pacing, whining, etc is a sign that they are NOT happy in their temporary new surrouding. Each action is your pet communicating to you that they want to be at home, comfortable and secure on their turf and familiar surroundings. Think about how long it takes us humans to develop a routine that we stick with (about 3 weeks). Then think about how long it would take your pet to get used to a new routine in a strange place. Realistically most of us don't go away or leave our pets for three weeks. So whether your gone for one day or two weeks, by the time that you return to pickup your pet from the creatively named fancy resort, the stress and anxiety of their new environment has exhausted them. So much so, that you think they are so relaxed from their visit to the spa. Isn't so! And like children at school, viruses & parasites are just as easily passed from one pet to another at any pet facility. Resulting in a necessary trip to the pet vet, a sick and sad pet, and an additional expense for you. And how about that new scent your pet has acquired while they're away from home? That's not a new pet perfume-it's the stink of the dried saliva from other dogs on your pet's fur, and the stink of their own saliva from excessive panting, mixed with the harsh cleaning chemicals from the so called fancy facility your pet is in. Requiring your pet to have a bath, which they may or may not love, and you may or may not have the time to do. So, although a pet sitter cannot replace you and the bond you have with your pet. They come close to it! While you're away, your pet knows that another human friend is visiting them, feeding their food they love, giving them treats from their own cookie jar, cleaning their own toilet that they don't have to share with strangers (litterboxes) and following the routine that makes them happy and stress free in their OWN home, where they are the TOP DOG, (top cat too), the priority, the king or queen of their own castle. And where they are always treated like royalty! For your pet, for any pet, there is no place like home!

Congratulations to 4 year old puggle-Jackson aka "Jack"!

Happy Mother's Day!
From your friends at
Wagging Tails Pet Sitting Service

On behalf of your four legged, furry "kids", we'd like you to know that they think you're the
Best Mom in the world !

A
Mother's Day Poem
From Your Dog:

You feed me when I'm hungry,
You keep water in my dish,
You let me sleep on anything
Or in any place I wish.

You sometimes let me lick your hands,
or even lick your face,
Despite the fact I've licked myself
In every private place.

You taught me how to come when called,
You taught me how to sit,
You always let me go outside,
So I can take a s- stroll.

You'll always have my loyalty,
up to the bitter end,
'cause after all, it's plain to see...

You are a dog's best friend!

Happy Mother's DayWagging Tails logo!

(Woof, arf, licks, slurps and tail wags! from your dog :)
And, of course, a Mother's Day poem from your kitty too!

On this very special day.
We want to thank our Mom's.
For loving us when we are sweet or bad,
For loving us when we are clean or dirty,
For taking care of us when we are well or sick,
For being there on the spot when we mew a lot,
For this Mother's Day we MEOW to say.....
We love you lots.

Dear Client and Friends of Wagging Tails:

We are celebrating our 15th anniversary!
As we begin to celebrate our 15th year of service, on behalf of the entire Wagging Tails staff, I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to each of you and to the communities we service. With your faith and trust in our company, and a lot of hard work, we have grown from just an idea, into a successful, well known and award winning service. We are VERY thankful for your loyalty and we appreciate all of your compliments. Throughout the years we have met thousands of wonderful pets. We've met puppies and kittens on their first week, in their new homes, and have cared for them as if they were our own pets, throughout their entire lives over the past 15 years. We've welcomed them into their new homes, watched them grow and even mourned their loss with their owners when old age or illness takes them from us. Each pet we care for is part of OUR pet family. Wagging Tails Pet Sitters all agree that it feels great to be providing a service to animals AND to their owners. So many times over the past 15 years we've heard-"Thank you for your service-without it, I would not be able to have a pet". So we'd like to think that because pet sitting services exist, there are many homeless pets that have gotten new homes. Even though the job of pet sitting is not always days of wagging tails and purrs, it is a very rewarding career. We go to bed each night exhausted, but content knowing that your pets are happy at home. So thank you again with all our hearts for your referrals to your friends, neighbors, family and coworkers. We really and truly appreciate your trusting us with the care of your best friends! We love our jobs and would not want to be doing anything else. We look forward to serving you and your pets over the next 15 years!
Sincerely,
Krista Lofquist

Pet Sitter of the Month is Lauren!

She always has the patience of a saint, a smile on her face and a witty joke to make us laugh and smile! AND she absolutely loves all the pets she's met! This month, Lauren, an excellent pet sitter, veteran member and manager on staff, has been chosen as PET SITTER OF THE MONTH! Many of our clients know and love her as their regular midday dog walker. She's fabulous at handling any pet we care for---from horses to hamsters! Lauren's previous experience training dogs to perform in films and on Broadway, and her schooling for equine management, has helped Lauren get thru several "hairy" pet sitting situations with great ease. Although she loves all of our clients, she has a special place in her heart for the dogs she walks on a daily basis-especially Mojo the awesome and sweet greyhound and his kitty roommate Minni. When asked what her most memorable moment pet sitting has been, Lauren said, "There's too many! But when I walked into a home to find a dog's fur had been shaved, I hugged him and said "Oh no, Sammi, you're naked!" And I didn't realize his owner was home, in the kitchen and started laughing hysterically." So Lauren even makes our human clients happy too! CONGRATULATIONS LAUREN!

Thank you to all who donated to our Presents for Pets Fundraiser!

Once again this year, our clients and friends were generous and we collected many great and much needed supplies for the Meriden Humane Society. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

You may remember that we had previously decided to donate all items from our Presents for Pets Fundraiser to ARF (Animal Rescue Foundation) in Terryville. However, because of the recent devastating fire at the shelter there is no storage space and they are not collecting supplies. But they ARE accepting monetary donations!

ARF needs to rebuild their shelter and purchase the land that the current shelter is on. So every penny counts. We encourage you to visit their website, participate in their fundraisers and donate to their cause. Our small, LOCAL shelters need our help! Thank you!

Pet Sitter of the Month--Maria!

Congratulations to Maria-our purrfect pet sitter of the month! Maria truly is an exemplary member of our team! This is proven when many of her coworkers take the time to contact WT management to compliment Maria and thank her for the assistance and input she gives, without hesitation, to them all. Talk about teamwork! It is fabulous that she is so helpful and informative. If we could clone Maria as the "purrfect WT pet sitter" we would! Our clients are always full of compliments of how Maria surpasses all expectations they had of our services. Maria has said several times that she enjoys her job very much. In fact, this is the ONE job she's had that she truly does enjoy. Currently Maria doesnt have any pets of her own. But she cares for and considers each one of our client's pets her own! She misses her dearly departed,13 year old Pomeranian, Snowball, and her many feathered friends. When asked if she had a favorite client or pet, Maria said it was too difficult to choose. They were all very special to her! We are proud to have you with us! Thanks Maria for all you do for WT and for our pet friends! CONGRATULATIONS on being chosen as Pet Sitter of the Month! Best wishes for a fun, safe & healthy summer!!!

 From Wagging Tails Pet Sitters
 School's out & summer's here!

It's another busy summer here at Wagging Tails. Despite the nation's major increase in gasoline prices and airfare, our clients are still traveling on their well deserved summer vacations.  And the alternative to a summer vacation, the "Staycation", that many budget conscious Americans have decided to take, still means that your pets need to be cared for while you're gone on day trips to the beach, or rainy days at the casino.

So relax and enjoy your day away! Even if you're gone for a few hours, we are happy to visit your pets to feed, play, exercise and love them!  So don't forget to call us--whether you're planning a daytrip on your "staycation" or a two week vacation away, we'll be there for your pets!

(860) 621-PETS(7387)

The Dog Days of Summer are Here!
Here's a few reminders from your Pet Sitters at Wagging Tails to keep your pets (and you) happy and healthy this summer:

-Fireworks, thunder and lightening occur often this time of year. Most pets are VERY sensitive to the loud noises these occurences make. So DON'T bring your pet to see a fireworks display. If there is a forecasted storm, keep them inside, with a radio on, to help drown out the noise. Make sure they are secure so that if they do get stressed from the booms and bangs, they will not do any harm to themselves or your home.

-Your pets need sunscreen too! When taking your dog on a walk or on a trip to the beach, be sure to apply sunscreen to your pet's nose, ears or exposed skin. If your pet has a thin coat, or has had a recent haircut, where you can see the skin thru it, they CAN get sunburn.  So just like humans, your pet should avoid extended exposure to the sun.

-Ever try to walk on hot sand at the beach? Or black pavement with bare feet in the summer? It's really HOT, it burns and it hurts!! That's how it feels on your pet's paws or their bare "feet".  So for their comfort & to protect their paws, please avoid walking your pet on hot surfaces, or walking at the hottest time of day!

-Do NOT leave your pet in a parked car. In fact, this time of year it's always best to leave our pets home in the cool and comfort of air conditioning. Even a short ride in a hot car can cause your pet to overheat. So it's best to save the doggy day trips for the cooler months.  Even trips to the dog park should be limited and restricted to early morning and later evenings when the temperature is cooler.

-DON'T shut off the air conditioning in your home. Many energy conscious clients turn off their a.c.'s when they leave for vacation. But your pet, in their fur coat is still home. And your home heats up quickly! Leave the temperature on a comfortable setting for your pet, but a reasonable setting for your budget!

-Don't leave windows opened more than a few inches while your pet is left unattended. An open window is too enticing for a curious cat looking out of it. They can easily push on the screen, fall out, become injured or lost!

-Fleas and ticks can make both you and your pets very uncomfortable. Don't walk your pet in areas with long grass. And after each walk, be sure to check yourself and your pet for fleas or ticks. There are many products out today that have kept the insect infestation minimal!

-If your pet loves to swim, make sure their laps in your pool or at the beach are always supervised. A dog life preserver is best to ensure that your pet will be safe while swimming or boating.

-Don't forget to bring plenty of water for BOTH yourself and your pet on walks, hikes and outings this summer!

-We understand that your pets are part of the family. So, although it may seem like a great idea to include your pet on your family's summer vacation, the stress of the change in environment can be detrimental to your pet's health, and could lead to stress for you on your well deserved and much needed vacation! All pets are creatures of habit and routine. Although you may be with them on vacation in a strange place, the confusion, frustration, separation anxiety and stress that they feel when taken from their familiar environment and daily routine can cause your pet to become ill. Lethargy, diarrhea, loss of appetite and dehydration are some of the many negative effects that travel can have on your pet. So for your pet's safety and for your piece of mind, leave your pets happy at home with your Wagging Tails Pet Sitter!

Don't forget about Christmas in July!!

Yes, it's 90 degrees outside, there's no chance for snow and it's hard to think about the Holiday Season. But, here's a good habit to get in to and a great way to get you thru the dog days of summer when you return from your summer vacation-- look ahead, plan and look forward to your NEXT trip! So, if you're planning to visit family or go away for the Holidays, it's NEVER too early to call us to reserve your pet care!

AND REMEMBER -IT'S NEVER TOO EARLY TO START COLLECTING PET SUPPLIES & DONATIONS FOR OUR ANNUAL
"PRESENTS FOR PETS"
                                          HOLIDAY FUNDRAISER!

It's so easy to donate presents for shelter pets---if you have toys, food, leashes and other pet supplies that your pets don't use anymore, or if you're doing some summer cleaning and find blankets, towels, newspapers, etc, that you want to give away, hold on to them for our fundraiser! Last year we had several truck loads of donations for the Meriden Humane Society. We hope that this Holiday Season we can double last year's amount! Just think of the large amounts of pet supplies you can accumulate to donate to the December fundraiser if you start NOW!

 CONGRATULATIONS TO ASHLEY--
SHE'S PET SITTER OF THE MONTH!!

Because Wagging Tails managers have already proven themselves as excellent pet sitters, (or they wouldn't be chosen to hold a position as a manager!), it is not usual for a manager to be chosen as Pet Sitter of the Month. BUT, this month, we're making an exception because this pet sitter & manager is really very deserving of recognition for all she does.  The continuous compliments we receive from our clients for Ashley's  excellent pet care, and from fellow pet sitters for her patience and professionalism in managing and assisting them, as well as, to the list of many other strengths she brings to Wagging Tails, proves she is very, very deserving of this award! She's earned it! Ashley recently celebrated her 4 year anniversary with our company. She's worked her way up from beginning as a part time pet sitter to a full time manager, and has proven herself to be a great asset to us. She's a great team leader! She's had plenty of experience in the care of her own pet menagerie--a Pekingnese-Jezebel,  her cats- Moses, Kesa and Desta, turtles- Happy & Buddy, and her bird- Beebop. She wears many hats here and has done an excellent job throughout the years in her responsibilities pet sitting and managing up to 40 pet sitters a day! We love having her as part of our Wagging Tails  family--and my own pets LOVE having their aunt Ashley care for them when I'm away! And that's a tough job--pet sitting for the boss! For the busy summer months Ashley has taken on yet another responsibility and will be assisting Renay, Angela and myself, in the office. So the next time you speak with her, be sure to congratulate her! CONGRATULATIONS ASHLEY!!!!  (Ashley is pictured holding her Pet Sitter of the Month certificate)

Our services are available 365 days/year!!

To better serve you and your pets this busy summer season, we have extended our office hours to 7 days/week.
Monday thru Friday from 7am to 4pm
Saturday & Sunday from 7am to noon

And our On Call Managers are available to assist you
after office hours from:

noon to 10pm on Saturday & Sunday

We LOVE hearing from you! So feel free to call us or email us with your comments, suggestions and pet care reservations!

Have a fabulous & fun summer!!!

Wagging Tails Newsletter                 June 2008
For Father's Day, From Your Dog.
The Top Ten Ways You And I Are Alike:
10. We both like to stick out heads out the car window and bark at other drivers.
9. There's nothing more comforting to us than napping in front of the the TV.
8. Others get impatient waiting for us to finish going potty.
7.  We've both been in the doghouse at one time or another.
6. We make warm, furry bed partners.
5.  Sometimes we beg for extra scraps of food.
4. You fix things-I'm a fixed thing.
3. We both like to sit around and scratch ourselves.
2. We whine if we're not let out of the house to play once in a while.
And the #1 way you and I are alike...
Given a choice, we'd rather just lie around and do nothing but eat and sleep all day. (I'm up for that on Father's Day, if you are!)
Happy Father's Day from your four legged friend AND from your friends at

Happy Mother's Day!
From your friends at
Wagging Tails Pet Sitting Service

On behalf of your four legged, furry "kids", we'd like you to know that they think you're the
Best Mom in the world !

A
Mother's Day Poem
From Your Dog:

You feed me when I'm hungry,
You keep water in my dish,
You let me sleep on anything
Or in any place I wish.

You sometimes let me lick your hands,
or even lick your face,
Despite the fact I've licked myself
In every private place.

You taught me how to come when called,
You taught me how to sit,
You always let me go outside,
So I can take a s- stroll.

You'll always have my loyalty,
up to the bitter end,
'cause after all, it's plain to see...

You are a dog's best friend!

Happy Mother's Day!

(Licks, Purrs, Meows, Drools)

Congratulations to Catherine
our fabulous
  Pet Sitter of the Month!
Since 2004, we've had the pleasure of having this awesome pet sitter and inspirational woman on our Wagging Tails team! Catherine has worked hard in Southington, to keep the pups she walks on regular midday visits happy and socialized. Expending their never ending energy is not always easy, but Catherine finds a way to do it!  When we're called to care for new members of the family - puppies or recently adopted pets- Catherine loves to meet them in their first weeks in their new homes.  Stopping by midday to relieve them, aiding in potty training and breaking up their day is one of her favorite parts of the job. Then four years later, as she continues to visit them on a weekly basis, she's seen them grow up and change! They're like her own extended pet family. In fact, she adopted on of our client's pets that they could no longer care for. AND she adopted a kitten from our foster program! AND she recently adopted a Lab from the local Dog Pound!  She cares for her pets, your pets, her kids AND works nights at another job! And she does it all so well! Our clients appreciate her attention to detail and excellent care and we appreciate her reliability, dependability, never ending efforts, professionalism, and hard work! Catherine's mature outlook on the pet sitting profession, as well as her ability to follow instructions to a "t", has impressed us and her fellow team mates. She's proud to be a Pet Sitter and she shows it! If we could clone Catherine to make multiples of the Purrfect Pet Sitter, we would!  If she's your regular midday pet sitter, you KNOW why she's been chosen as Pet Sitter of the Month! Be sure to congratulate Catherine! She's one great lady and we love and appreciate her!

April Newsletter

April 2008 Wagging Tails Newsletter
Wednesday, April 23rd is National Administrative Professional's Day. In honor of this day I'd like to introduce you to Wagging Tails Pet Sitting Service's hard working Administrative Professionals-
Renay and Angela.

Each time you call our office and speak with these incredible women you'll know a bit more about them, their hard work, extensive efforts and their contributions to Wagging Tails. I truly appreciate them. And I know that many of our wonderful clients and pet sitters do as well. Knowing that your pet is going to be in great hands while you're away starts with your phone call to us and reservation taken by one of these women.  But their jobs entail so much more than just answering phones and taking reservations! They manage and schedule nearly 40 pet sitters, servicing 20 towns, caring for sometimes unpredictable pets, in all types of weather--all of which can create very busy and event filled days!

I am so proud to have them on the Wagging Tails team. They have been the backbone of Wagging Tails for so long, that I consider them my extended family. In fact, Angela's children (future pet sitters), 8 and 3 years old, call me "Auntie"!  Much of the growth and success that Wagging Tails has achieved throughout the past 10 years is due largely in part to the hard work, loyalty, dedication, organization, ideas and many, many hours that these two women have put in.

Renay came to us in 2002 with nearly 20 years of valuable office management experience. Every day here brings new triumphs and challenges and Renay greets them each with a positive take charge attitude. Whether it's accommodating a client with a last minute visit, or assisting a pet sitter who is locked out of a home, Renay has the best interest at heart of each and every client she services and pet sitter she assists.

Angela began her career here as a pet sitter in 1998. She saw the need for assistance here in our office and offered her valuable experience and incredibly patient, calm demeanor to become the first Administrative assistant we ever had. TEN years later, Angela continues to contribute daily to our success!

I have to admit that it was extremely difficult and a big decision for me to entrust the welfare and operations of my company to someone other than myself. But ten years ago, the growing pains of the business required me to relinquish some of the responsibilities. I started this business because I wanted to work with animals and provide a needed service to the community, not because I wanted to run an office! So having two incredibly reliable, experienced, customer service oriented extensions of myself, on our team for several years has absolutely attributed to our growth and success. I am so proud of them, that I thought you should be introduced to the two incredibly awesome tail waggers! They adore all animals and have your pet's best interest at heart. Thank you Renay & Angela! Happy Administrative Professional's Day!

If you have, or work with, an Administrative Professional, be sure to take the time, not only on April 23rd, but often, to show your appreciation for all their efforts! And if you are an Administrative Professional-Celebrate!!

March 2008

Wagging Tails Pet Sitting Service
March Newsletter

Drumroll please!! In recognition of her hard work, dedication and purrfect pet sitting, we'd like to introduce you to:

Wagging Tails
Pet Sitter of the Month
Carol E.!!!!!!
Across the nation March 2-8 was Professional Pet Sitters Week! In honor of this week long celebration, and with many of our client's input, we have chosen our first Pet Sitter of the Month for 2008! As you can see, as this month's winner, Carol, a Wallingford area team member, was treated like royalty! Carol shows her pet sitting pride by wearing the Milkbone crown. Here she shows off her official Pet Sitter of the Month certificate. Carol has been an exemplary member of our team for nearly 3 years now. Since her first day on the job Carol has continuously made each and every client (2 and 4 legged), on each and every visit, very happy. Her own four legged family farm consists of her Rottweiler "JC", 2 rabbits,2 goldfish and a goat.Besides client nominations, Carol was chosen as Pet Sitter of the Month by Wagging Tails Management for many, many reasons, including Carol's continuous willingness to go above and beyond her pet care duties with our clients, her team effort in assisting other sitters, her thorough attention to paperwork and pet sitting details AND her positive attitude with managers. In Carol's own words, "I was brought up to respect and love all animals. I believe that since they cannot tell us how they are feeling or what they need, you have to be open and always looking to make sure that whatever it is they may need you are there to take care of it." Early on, Carol proved herself to be a wonderful employee, so she was quickly given more responsibility and also holds a title of "Pet Sitter Trainer". Carol's great work, and good habits are shared and instilled in new staff members, as Carol diligently and thoroughly trains them on our policies and procedures and how to maintain and surpass the Wagging Tails standards for excellence! With this title, Carol receives prizes AND is eligible to win Wagging Tails Pet Sitter of the YEAR honor! Congratulations CAROL! We are proud to have you!!

We would like to thank all our clients very much for your input, nominations and suggestions for whom you thought this title should go to this month. The response from our clients was wonderful! And it is great to know that in our client's opinion nearly ALL of our staff have proven themselves worthy of this honor. Keep your comments coming-perhaps next month, your pet sitter will be awarded this honor!

Tell us what breed and types of pets you have.

Today, there are many new "designer" breeds of dogs, such as Labradoodles-a combination of a Labrador and a Standard Poodle.  Exotic pets such as sugar gliders and chinchillas have become very popular as well.
