One of the most important, yet
overlooked, aspects of routine
care for dogs is grooming. Just
as you brush or comb your own
hair daily, your dog or cat's
fur should be brushed daily as
well. This daily routine will
get your pet used to being
handled, will aid in the natural
removal of your pet's undercoat,
and will help in your
pet's natural deshedding
process. Then, depending on the
breed of pet, a complete and
professional bath and grooming
should be done every four to ten
weeks. For example, a Lab can
be professionally groomed a
little less often than a Bichon
or a Golden Retriever.
There is a huge benefit
to maintaining a professional
grooming schedule. Removal of
the undercoat is extremely
important to maintaining your
pet's good health. If your pet's
undercoat is not removed, it
will matt. A matted pet has no
insulation from the heat or
cold, because air cannot
circulate through his coat. In
the cold, a matted coat with
lots of undercoat retains the
water and moisture and provides
no protection. Matts trap dirt
and water causing irritation to
the skin, often creating "hot
spots" or raw skin irritation. A
properly maintained coat, with
the undercoat properly removed,
provides warmth and insulation,
avoids matting, and decreases
the risk of irritating and
uncomfortable hot spots. In
some cases, owner's of severely
matted pets are charged
dematting fees which can be very
expensive because it is a very
time consuming process and can
be very unpleasant for the pet.
Although shaving matts
is an option, it is not always
good for your pet either because
a shaved animal has no
protection from the heat or
cold. In the warm months, pets
with exposed shaved skin CAN get
sun burn. Despite warm weather,
a properly maintained coat with
the undercoat removed by
frequent brushing and regular
professional grooming, is the
best protection from the heat
and sun.
When's the last time
you inspected your pet's
ears, eyes, teeth and nails?
Each of these parts of your
pet's anatomy should be
checked on a weekly basis.
Proper and preventative
maintenance will avoid any
overlooked infections. And
the use of a professional
groomer to clean your pet's
ears, eyes and to
professionally clip or
dremel nails, will provide a
SAFE alternative to you
doing it yourself.
Wagging Tails Groomer
realizes the importance of
proper grooming. Our full
grooming service consists of a
full skin and coat exam,
bathing, fluff drying, removal
of undercoat, clipping, styling,
ear cleaning and teeth
cleaning as well as nail
trimming and filing.
We also offer additional
services such as flea dips,
skunk baths, teeth brushing and
our very popular and effective
"Furminator" Treatment. Call

IS MOBILE GROOMING
THE RIGHT CHOICE
FOR YOUR PET?
- Do you have a busy or
hectic schedule and can
never find time to bring
your pet to the groomer?
- Do you hate the idea of
your pet sitting in a cage
at the groomer's all day?
- Does your pet get
nervous or stressed out when
it's time to visit the
groomer?
- Does the thought of your
dog having to listen to
nothing but barking dogs all
day make you cringe?
- Does your pet get
carsick or stressed in the
car?
- Do you hate the idea of
putting a dirty, smelly dog
in your nice clean car?
- Do you have an older or
sick pet that cannot handle
the stress of a trip to the
groomer?
- Do you have a Pug, Shih
Tzu, Bulldog, or any other
short nosed breed that can
overheat if dried in a cage?
If you answered "YES" to any
of the above questions, then
Wagging Tails Mobile Pet
Grooming is the perfect solution
for you!
Wagging Tails Mobile Pet
Grooming offers the ultimate in
convenience because we come to

cage, and all pets are gently
hand dried so there is never the
risk of overheating.

SOME PET GROOMING TIPS FOR
YOU
BRUSHING
Brush your pet thoroughly every
day. This helps keep his or her
hair in good condition by
removing dirt, spreading the
natural oils throughout the
coat, preventing tangles from
forming and keeping the skin
clean and free from irritation.
It is best to start
brushing your pet at an early
age. Proceed slowly and gently,
and be sure to use treats and
plenty of praise to make the
experience fun!
EARS
Ear care is an important part of
grooming. Ear infections can not
only be painful, but lead to
permanent hearing loss. Pet's
with folded ears such as Labs
and Goldens are more prone to
yeast infections of the ear
because moisture gets trapped in
them. The signs of a problem
with a companion animal's ears
include redness, constant
scratching, head shaking and
odor. If the problem persists,
talk to your vet.
Chronic ear problems are
often times the result of a food
allergy. Check the ingredients
on the label of your dog's food
and try feeding a food with a
different grain or protein
source. Foods made with fish
and sweet potatoes are sometimes
a good alternative. Again, if
you notice any discoloration or
foul odor in your pets ear,
and/or frequent ear scratching,
see your vet.
How to Clean Your
Pet's Ears
-
Check your dog's
ears weekly or at a minimum
of twice per month. The skin
inside and on the flaps
should be pale pink. If
there is a foul odor and/or
any red, brown or black
skin, have a veterinarian
examine your pet's ears.
-
Moisten a cotton
ball with warm water or a
little mineral oil and use
it to clean the opening into
the canal and the flaps. Do
not probe too deeply into
the canal.
TEETH
Dogs and cats can get cavities
and develop periodontal disease.
Their teeth should be cleaned
with a pet toothpaste at least
twice per week. It is best to
use a small toothbrush that has
soft bristles. Cleanings
performed by a veterinarian may
also be required.
NAILS
Many people prefer to leave this
to the groomer, but if you
choose to trim your dog's nails
at home, the pliers style is the
best kind of nail clipper for a
non-professional to use. Trim
just a small amount at a time
being careful not to cut the
"quick". This is the pink area
of the nail that is close to the
paw. It can be seen on pets with
white or clear nails, but is not
visible on pets with black
nails. If this "quick" is cut,
it is very painful and your pet
can bleed profusely. It is a
good idea to have styptic powder
on hand to stop any bleeding
should you cut into the quick.
Better yet, call Wagging Tails
Mobile Pet Groomer--brushing,
bathing, cleaning ears, teeth
and clipping nails--we can do it
all for you!

We
are thrilled
that so many
of our
clients have
tried and
love our
mobile
grooming service.
For those of
you who have
yet to try
it, or are
wondering
how it
works, I'd
like to take
the time to
answer some
frequently
asked
questions
we've
received
regarding
the mobile
grooming van
and
services.
-Does
mobile
grooming
mean
you
groom
my
pet
in
my
tub,
at
my
house?
Yes we do come to your house to groom your pet, but NO we do not groom your pet in your tub. We have a self contained mobile grooming van. It is a state of the art grooming salon on wheels. It was specifically designed and created for this purpose by a mid western company that has over 30 years experience in the mobile grooming industry. We visited the factory and watched production of the van! It has a huge tub that will fit ANY size dog and a hydraulic groom table with a bridge to the tub to easily get arthritic or senior pets in and out of the tub.
-Isn't
it too
cold to
groom in
a van
outdoors?
And too
hot in
the
summer?
No!
The
entire
interior
of
the
van
is
heated
and
the
water
used to
bathe
your
pet is
heated.
So
for
your
pets
comfort
and
(our
groomers
too)
they
are
nice
and
toasty!
And
in
the
warmer
months,
the
entire
van
is
air
conditioned
too!
-Where
do you
get the
water
and
power to
groom my
pet?
We use
our own
water tank and
generator to
heat the
water to
groom
your
pet. Our
clients
don't
have to
supply
anything--just
your
pet!
-Pet
owners
do
not
need
to
be
present
for
us
to
groom
your
pet.
However,
we
do
like
to
see
or
speak
with
you
on
the
very
first
grooming
appointment
so
you
can
specify
the
services
and
type
of
cut
you
would
like
your
pet
to
have.
-Yes,
our
mobile
groomer
can
come
to
your
workplace
or
business
and
groom
your
pet
there!
Other
benefits
and
pros
to
using Wagging
Tails Mobile
Grooming
Service:
-Unlike most grooming salons that sanitize only once daily at the end of the day-- in our mobile van, the tub, table, grooming supplies, tools and entire work area of the van are sanitized between each and every groom appointment.
-Your
pet
is
Fluff
dryed
and
NOT
cage
dried!
This
means
that
after
your
pet's
bath,
unlike
grooming
salons,
your
pet
is
hand
dried
by
the
groomer
with
a
gentle
specially
made
fluff
dryer.
In
most
grooming
salons,
pets
are
put
in
cages
with
dryers
attached
and
cage
dried.
But
there
are
no
cages
in the
van.
None.
PERIOD!
Your
pet
will
not
have
to
sit
in a
cage
to
wait
their
turn
to
be
groomed
or
to
dry.
Your
pet
receives
individual
care
and
attention.
If
you
have
multiple
pets
to
be
groomed,
to
reduce
stress,
each
is
done
individually.
Meaning
that
they
wait
their
turn
in
your
home!
-We
use
all
natural
products
to
bathe
and
clean
your
pet.
-We
absolutely
DO
groom
cats!
We've
even
groomed
rabbits!
-Our
groomer
is
licensed,
experienced,
trained
in
and
a
graduate
of
professional
grooming
school.
-Each
groom
includes
a
special
hydrosurge
massaging
water

all
natural
shampoos
&
conditioners,
a

-The
groom
fee
is
breed
specific
and
also
depends
on
the
needs
of each
pet.
In
some
cases,
mobile

may
be
slightly
more
expensive
than

-our

Congratulations to
Angela!
She's Wagging Tails Pet
Sitter of the Month!!!
You may recognize her
name as the sunny
personality that answers
the phone and books your
appointments here at the
Wagging Tails office.
But you may not know
that this hard working
woman is also a part
time pet sitter! Angela
has been an
important part of the
Wagging Tails family for
about 12 years!! From
hamsters to horses, and
pooper scooping to
invoicing, Angela's done
it all here! This month
(but really it's every
month) we recognize that
Angela is a fabulous pet
sitter! When she's not
busy with Wagging Tails,
Angela enjoys her own
two furry kids, Tritan,
a rottweiler, and Blue,
a pit bull. Be sure to
say hi and to
congratulate her when
you call in to book your
pet sitting visits or
pet grooming
appointments.
Congratulations
Angela for being chosen
as Wagging Tails Pet
Sitter of the Month!

Another grrreat
event coming up for
you and your dog to

Wagging Tails will
be there! We hope to
see you and your
dog!
2nd Annual Jane
Haze Memorial Pet
Show
at the Southington
Care Center
45 Meriden Ave
Saturday Sept 12th
10am to 12noon
No
admission fee
but donations to

event are
appreciated.
Preregistration is
necessary

Events scheduled are
pet contests,
photos and fun times
to benefit the Jane
Haze Memorial Fund.
Jane Haze was a 68
year old nurse and
long time animal
lover. She
tragically drowned
in December 2007,
while trying to
rescue her dog
Finnley after he had
fallen thru the ice
on the Farmington
River. The event
will help to raise
funds in her memory
to reimburse dog
owners for a 10-week
pet therapy class
that trains handlers
and dogs to deal
with patients and
therapy
routines. Pet
therapy visits to
the Southington Care
Center and other
facilities across CT
help to provide a
much needed
emotional and
psychological lift
to elderly and ill
residents.
Help support a
grrrreat cause, and
say hi to your
Wagging Tails Pet
Sitters- come to the
Jane Haze Memorial

Your pet is
a creature
of
habit. Their
daily
routine is
important to
their well
being and
happiness. Point
proven when
their kisses
wake you up
at exactly
the
same time
each
day-even on
your day
off-when you
were hoping
to sleep in.
Familiar
sights and
sounds keep
them calm,
happy and
stress free.
Point proven
when they
come racing
to see you
when they
hear your
key in the
lock, or the
slightest
clank of the
opening of
their cookie
jar. Every
pet has a
routine, a
daily
schedule
that keeps
them feeling
secure and
content.
They know
the routine,
the sounds
of home and
the
smells of
home
surrounding
them. And
they are
happy.
That's why,
when you are
traveling,
working or
away for the
day, we
encourage
you to leave
your pet at
home. No
matter how
fancy the
name or the
description
sounds--pet
resorts,
doggie
retreats,
pet spas,
pet hotels,
doggie day
care, pet
camps, are
still NOT
home!! To
your pet,
they are all
strange
places where
the comforts
of home may
be
advertised
to you, but
are still
NOT there
for your
pet. Your
familiar
scents, your
pet's
favorite
couch, their
favorite
foods and
their
important
regular
routine are
NOT present
in a
facility
that is NOT
home. So
although you
may think
your pet is
happy to go
buhbye-
don't be
fooled!
Their
excessive
panting,
pacing,
whining, etc
is a sign
that they
are NOT
happy in
their
temporary
new
surrouding.
Each action
is your pet
communicating
to you that
they want to
be at home,
comfortable
and secure
on their
turf and
familiar
surroundings.
Think about
how long it
takes us
humans to
develop a
routine that
we stick
with (about
3 weeks).
Then think
about how
long it
would take
your pet to
get used to
a new
routine in a
strange
place.
Realistically
most of us
don't go
away or
leave our
pets for
three weeks.
So whether
your gone
for one day
or two
weeks, by
the time
that you
return
to pickup
your pet
from the
creatively
named fancy
resort, the
stress and
anxiety of
their new
environment
has
exhausted
them. So
much so,
that you
think they
are so
relaxed from
their visit
to the spa.
Isn't so!
And like
children at
school, viruses
& parasites
are just as
easily
passed from
one pet to
another at
any pet
facility.
Resulting in
a necessary
trip to the
pet vet,
a sick and
sad pet, and
an
additional
expense for
you. And how
about that
new scent
your pet has
acquired
while
they're away
from home?
That's not a
new pet
perfume-it's
the stink of
the
dried saliva
from other
dogs on your
pet's fur,
and the
stink of
their own
saliva from
excessive
panting,
mixed with
the harsh
cleaning
chemicals
from the so
called fancy
facility
your pet is
in.
Requiring
your pet to
have a bath,
which they
may or may
not love,
and you may
or may not
have the
time to do.
So, although
a pet sitter
cannot
replace you
and the bond
you have
with your
pet. They
come close
to it! While
you're away,
your pet
knows that
another
human friend
is visiting
them,feeding
their food
they love,
giving them
treats from
their own
cookie jar,
cleaning
their own
toilet that
they don't
have to
share with
strangers (litterboxes)
and
following
the routine
that makes
them happy
and stress
free in
their OWN
home, where
they are the
TOP DOG,
(top cat
too), the
priority,
the king or
queen of
their own
castle. And
where they
are always
treated like
royalty! For
your pet,
for any pet,
there is no
place like
home!

Happy Mother's Day!
From your friends at
Wagging Tails
Pet Sitting Service
On behalf of your four
legged,
furry "kids", we'd like
you to know that they
think you're the
Best Mom in the world !
|
|
A
Mother's Day Poem
From Your Dog:
You feed me when I'm hungry,
You keep water in my dish,
You let me sleep on anything
Or in any place I wish.
You sometimes let me lick your
hands,
or even lick your face,
Despite the fact I've licked
myself
In every private place.
You taught me how to come when
called,
You taught me how to sit,
You always let me go outside,
So I can take a s- stroll.
You'll always have my loyalty,
up to the bitter end,
'cause after all, it's plain to
see...
You are a dog's best friend!
Happy Mother's Day !
(Woof, arf, licks, slurps
and tail wags! from your dog
:)
|
And, of
course, a Mother's Day
poem from your kitty
too!
On
this very special
day.
We want to thank our
Mom's.
For loving us when
we are sweet or bad,
For loving us when
we are clean or
dirty,
For taking care of
us when we are well
or sick,
For being there on
the spot when we mew
a lot,
For this Mother's
Day we MEOW to
say.....
We love you lots.
(Licks, Purrs,
Meows, Drools)

Dear Client
and Friends
of Wagging
Tails:
We are
celebrating
our 15th
anniversary!
As
we
begin
to
celebrate
our
15th
year
of
service,
on
behalf
of
the
entire
Wagging
Tails
staff,
I
would
like
to
express
my
sincerest
gratitude
to
each
of
you
and
to
the
communities
we
service.
With
your
faith
and
trust
in
our
company,
and
a
lot of
hard
work,
we
have
grown
from
just
an
idea,
into
a
successful,
well
known
and
award
winning
service.
We
are
VERY
thankful
for
your
loyalty
and
we
appreciate
all
of
your
compliments.
Throughout
the
years
we
have
met thousands
of
wonderful
pets.
We've
met
puppies
and
kittens
on
their
first
week,
in
their
new
homes,
and
have
cared
for
them as
if
they
were
our
own
pets,
throughout
their
entire
lives
over
the
past
15
years.
We've
welcomed
them
into
their
new
homes,
watched
them
grow
and
even
mourned
their
loss
with
their
owners
when
old
age
or
illness
takes
them
from
us.
Each
pet
we
care
for
is
part
of
OUR
pet
family.
Wagging
Tails
Pet
Sitters
all
agree
that
it
feels
great
to
be
providing
a
service
to
animals
AND
to
their
owners.
So
many
times
over
the
past
15
years
we've
heard-"Thank
you
for
your
service-without
it,
I
would
not
be
able
to
have
a
pet".
So
we'd
like
to
think
that
because
pet
sitting
services
exist,
there
are
many
homeless
pets
that
have
gotten
new
homes. Even
though the
job
of
pet
sitting
is
not
always
days
of wagging
tails
and
purrs,
it
is a
very
rewarding
career.
We
go
to
bed
each
night
exhausted,
but
content
knowing
that
your
pets
are
happy
at
home.
So
thank
you
again
with
all
our
hearts
for
your
referrals
to
your
friends,
neighbors,
family
and
coworkers.
We
really
and
truly
appreciate
your
trusting
us
with
the
care
of
your
best
friends!
We
love
our
jobs
and
would
not
want
to
be
doing
anything
else.
We
look
forward
to
serving
you
and
your
pets
over
the
next
15
years!
Sincerely,
Krista

Pet
Sitter of the
Month is Lauren!

She
always has
the patience
of a saint,
a smile on
her face and
a witty joke
to make us
laugh and
smile! AND
she
absolutely
loves all
the pets
she's met!
This month,
Lauren, an
excellent
pet
sitter, veteran
member and
manager on
staff, has
been chosen
as PET
SITTER OF
THE MONTH!
Many of our
clients know
and love her
as their
regular
midday dog
walker.
She's
fabulous at
handling any
pet we care
for---from
horses to
hamsters! Lauren's
previous
experience
training dogs
to perform
in films and
on Broadway,
and her
schooling
for equine
management, has
helped
Lauren get
thru several
"hairy" pet
sitting
situations
with great
ease.
Although she
loves all of
our clients,
she has a
special
place in her
heart for
the dogs she
walks on a
daily
basis-especially
Mojo the
awesome and
sweet
greyhound
and his
kitty
roommate
Minni. When
asked what
her most
memorable
moment pet
sitting has
been, Lauren
said,
"There's too
many! But
when I
walked into
a home to
find a dog's
fur had been
shaved, I
hugged him
and said "Oh
no, Sammi,
you're
naked!" And
I didn't
realize his
owner was
home, in the
kitchen and
started
laughing
hysterically."
So Lauren
even makes
our human
clients
happy too!
CONGRATULATIONS
LAUREN!

conveniently right in the
comfort of their own home where
they are not exposed to fleas,
ticks, illnesses or diseases
that other pets carry. They stay
clean and happy. They are not
exposed to other potential
hazards-such as dog fights. And
are well socialized by a visit
from their pet sitter. After our
walk or playtime, we'll even be
happy to bring in your mail and
turn on a light for you to come
home to.
So after a long day at
work-wouldn't it be great to
walk in the door and know that
your dog had a fun, safe, energy
expending, and bladder relieving
visit from a Wagging Tails Pet
Sitter!?!?

PET SITTER OF THE
MONTH!!!
Introducing...Virginia!
Wagging Tails
Pet Sitter of
the Month. Our
fabulous pet
sitter easily
earned this
title because of
her fantastic
animal care
skills, her
excellent
attention to
detail, the
respect of her
coworkers and
her sparkling
personality! For nearly
2 years,
Virginia has
brought her
enthusiasm and
skills to our
team.Virginia
has grown very
attached to her
regular midday
dog walking
clients. She's
said she
appreciates how
different, yet
how lovable,
they all are.
Virginia's
"kids", her 3
boxers-Iris,
Ares Achilles &
Selene have
given her plenty
of experience
with big dogs.
They, along with
her kitty
Nutmeg, are the
loves of her
life! Virginia
says that she's
learned from her
job as a pet
sitter never to
take anything
for granted. We

have her on our
team. She's an

Thank you to
all who donated to our
Presents for Pets
Fundraiser!
Once again this
year, our clients
and friends were
generous and we
collected many great
and much needed
supplies for the
Meriden Humane
Society. Thank you!
Thank you! Thank
you!
You may remember
that we
had previously
decided to donate
all items from our
Presents for Pets
Fundraiser to ARF
(Animal Rescue
Foundation) in
Terryville. However,
because of the
recent devastating
fire at the shelter
there is no storage
space and they are
not collecting
supplies. But they
ARE accepting
monetary donations!
ARF needs to rebuild
their shelter and
purchase the land
that the current
shelter is on. So
every penny counts.
We encourage you to
visit their website,
participate in their
fundraisers and
donate to their
cause. Our small,
LOCAL shelters need
our help! Thank
you!

Pet Sitter of the
Month--Maria!
Congratulations to
Maria-our purrfect pet
sitter of the month!
Maria truly is an
exemplary member of our
team! This is proven
when many of her
coworkers take the time
to contact WT management
to compliment Maria and
thank her for the
assistance and input she
gives, without
hesitation, to them all.
Talk about teamwork! It
is fabulous that she is
so helpful and
informative. If we could
clone Maria as the
"purrfect WT pet sitter"
we would! Our clients
are always full of
compliments of how Maria
surpasses all
expectations they had of
our services. Maria has
said several times that
she enjoys her job very
much. In fact, this is
the ONE job she's had
that she truly does
enjoy. Currently Maria
doesnt have any pets of
her own. But she cares
for and considers each
one of our client's pets
her own! She misses her
dearly departed,13 year
old Pomeranian,
Snowball, and her many
feathered friends. When
asked if she had a
favorite client or pet,
Maria said it was too
difficult to choose.
They were all very
special to her! We are
proud to have you with
us! Thanks Maria for all
you do for WT and for
our pet friends!
CONGRATULATIONS on being
chosen as Pet Sitter of
the Month! You deserve
it!

This
Holiday Season
help Wagging Tails Pet
Sitters collect:
"Presents
for Pets"
Please
participate in our
"Presents 4 Pets"
fundraiser!
Last
holiday season
our clients
and friends
helped to
make this
fundraiser a
HUGE
success-so
this is an
early reminder and
request for your
help for another
great year!
This Holiday
Season, when
you're buying
your own much
loved and
pampered pet a
gift, don't
forget about the
1000's of
homeless pets in
CT animal
shelters that
won't be
spending the
holidays with a
family this
year. The
"Presents 4
Pets" event is
the same for
pets as the
"Toys 4 Tots"
program is for
kids! "Presents
4 Pets" is a
nationally
recognized
fundraiser
sponsored by the
National
Association of
Professional Pet
Sitters to raise
awareness and
support
of National
Animal
Shelter Appreciation
Week.
Throughout the
month of
December,
Wagging Tails
Pet Sitters are
collecting
supply donations
for shelter
animals. Wagging
Tails Pet
Sitters ask you
to contribute by
donating pet
toys, treats,
food, beds,
blankets,
towels, laundry
detergent,
bleach, leashes,
collars and any
other pet
related
supplies.
Do you
have
some pet
food or
treats
that
your
finicky
four
legged
friend
just
doesnt
like? Or
toys
that
they
just
dont
play
with
anymore?
Cleaning
out your
closets?
Don't
throw
away
those
old
towels
or
blankets.
Call us!
We'll
take
them
from
you.
To
contribute--it's
easy!
Just
contact
us to
arrange
for a
Wagging
Tails
Pet
Sitter
to come
to your
home or
business
and pick
up your
donated
items!
Or while
we're
pet
sitting
for you,
you may
leave
the
items
with a
note, at
your
home,
for us
to
collect
while
we're
there.
At the end
of December,
Wagging
Tails Pet
Sitters will
distribute
the much
needed items
to a local
non profit
animal
shelter.
Don't have
any items to
donate?
During this
season of
giving, we
ask that you
find it in
your heart
to make a
monetary
donation to
the LOCAL
non profit
animal
shelter of
your choice.
Call us and
we will
suggest some
shelter
names
and addresses.
Stay
tuned---at
the end of
the month we
will give
you an
update
of which
shelter(s)
were the
recipient of
"Presents 4
Pets"!
Call us to
arrange a
pickup
today!Thank
you in
advance for
your
kindness and
generosity.
Happy
Holidays!
